Duf's Site info Update:4/11/02 Note to self: update your system info more than once every 2 years. :) Since the below info was posted the site has moved 3 times, including a 1200 mile move south. The hardware has changed 3 times. The connection has ranged from dedicated dial up, to cable modem, to isdn, back to dial up. This past week I migrated the entire site to a commercial provider to eliminate the need for me to have a second phone line and the associated ISP charges for a dedicated account with static IP. So I still have the server up and running but only to serve my in-house lan and give me a platform to tinker with to help with my job. I still do web related work for people but mostly for barter or trade. I am the network admin of a local government office so my web work has become secondary. I have learned much since I wrote the below description and I hope to continue to grow that knowledge base. You can never stop learning in my business or you quickly become obsolete. If you find any other disgustingly out of date info on my site let me know and I will delete it or update it. :)
Old stuff from God knows when :) My site is running on an IBM clone computer (I built myself) with a Pentium 200 CPU, 128 meg of RAM and 4 gig of SCSI drive space. I run a mini network out of my home. I have 6 computers in total. My webserver is running NT 4.0 with IIS 4.0 (with Front Page 98 extensions) along with Microsoft Exchange 5.5 and Proxy Server 2.0. My DNS hosting is handled by Granite Canyon. I have an official registered domain name (www.duf.net) as well as a dynamic dns name (duf.dyndns.com) My connection to the internet is only dial up so bandwith is limited but for the small scale that I have, it appears to be working well enough. I can offer internet email, ftp and web page hosting. If you are interested in an email account or some web space let me know. No charge is necessary (but donations of any sort are welcome) but keep in my mind this is only appropriate for very small web sites. My site contains various business and personal pages as well as subjects that interest me. I also have tied databases to the web interface as well as play with lots of little aspects of the world wide web. My hope for this is to use the exposure to do work for a "real" paying customer that would help me in turn finance things like a better server and a higher bandwith connection. You can help me with this by passing the word and referring someone you know looking to set up an in-house web server, shared connection to the internet or web page design.
